Eating more fruits and vegetables to lose 20 pounds

by Cindy
(Canada)

I am hoping to lose 20 pounds, no more than 2 a week and no less that 1.

I will eliminate eating after supper; I will drink only water and start each day with whole grains. I will increase my fruit and vegetable intake as well.

If I lose 2 pounds in a week, I get to eat a treat on Sunday. When I lose 10 pounds, I am going to buy a new pair of jeans. I have been slowly gaining and don't want to get to a point where it is a real problem.

Lose 15-20 pounds

by Teena
(Richmond VA)

I currently weigh between 137 and 140 pounds. The weight has manifested in the last year. It is predominantly belly fat and fat on my hips.

I am starting my exercise plans with Wii Active working 30 minutes to one hour each day. I hope to lose the weight by April 1st, 2010.

One long term goal is to run a local 10K run. No way this year, but I plan to run it in 2011.
I want to do this for my long term health and for my son.

Wow! What a goal!
by: Marion

Hi Teena,

You really are dedicated to your health and fitness, aren't you?

I have myself used the Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus , but just for fun, not so much for serious exercise.

Anyways, I think this is a great way to have fun and get fit at the same time.

On of my goals is also to run a local 10k run this year, probably in March. Last year I ran 8k and it went real well, so I'm sure I can do the 10k.

As for your training I can only recommend you to start slowly in the beginning. When people are un-trained, they can hurt themselves easily and overdo it without noticing until too late.

But I'm sure, when having trained a few weeks with Wii Active and lost a few pounds, it'll be easy for you to start running 2k, and then going up to 10k until the end of the year.

All the best and keep us posted on your progress :-)

Lose 20lbs to stay healthy and live longer

by Dale
(Fayetteville, AR)

I am currently looking to lose about 20 pounds. I don't really have a deadline, but I realize that I'm getting up in age and want to improve my health in order to live longer.

My family needs me to lose this weight. My plan is to use a treadmill in the beginning. I'll also resume lifting weights and stretching on a regular basis.

Exercise and weight loss go hand in hand
by: Marion

Hi Susan,

what a sensible goal!

Slow weight loss is much more sustainable than fast one.

Start with substituting at least one or two meals per day for low fat low calorie recipes.

Exercising regularly will help a lot. Find some fun activities that you enjoy doing. It's a lot easier to workout if you like doing it.

Team up with a friend and make regular weekly appointments, this will help you not to skip your exercise session.

You can also start some fun indoors workout (maybe even with your partner?) at your home with the
Wii Sports Active Program.

All the best,

Marion

Lose 12kg after giving birth

by Sucheta
(India)

I had put on a lot of weight after delivery and was not feeling comfortable wearing tight fitting clothes.

So I made a target that I should loose 12kgs within six months for which I took admission in gym. I used to go to the gym regularly for one hour in the morning.

Along with going to the gym I bought a diet chart from my dietitian and sticked to it as I wanted to reduce by any means.

By sticking to diet and exercise I reduced almost 12kgs within six months and was able to achieve my target.

Lose 5kg until end of March

by Katrin
(Switzerland)

What a nice idea!!

My goals are:

* start working out regularly (running), at least 2 times per week

* lose those extra 5kg that I accumulated over the last 4 month (just saying: vacation and Christmas)

* look splendid and slim for my big birthday party in April

And of course, this means I have to reach my goals by end of March, because then I have enough time to buy that super-sexy outfit just before my birthday.

:-))

One pound a week
by: Marion

Hi Emma,

slow but steady.

That's the right way to go!
I know how some things (like in your case your curvy thighs) can make us feel uncomfortable and insecure. It feels as if everyone is staring just on our "soft spot", which of course they aren't but it still feels awful.

When you know your soft spot it's easy to either take action or to hide it, i.e. with flattering clothes.

In addition to tightening your legs, you can also do some motivational work such as Eating for excellent health or Conquering social anxiety .

Reduce another 12kg to reach my ideal weight

by Prakyath
(Bangalore)

I am now weighing about 94 kilos and my height is 6 feet 2 inches. I am basically looking to reduce another 12 kilos (which is ideal for my height) by the end of April 2010 that is 3 months from now.

Every month I would want to reduce about 5 kilos which I think is a realistic target if proper exercising and diet is followed.

I have been working out in the gym for past 1 year, so I felt this could be a realistic target which can be achieved. I have started to take a lot of nutritional food and reduced almost all fatty food.

Lose 5 - 10kg

by Genevieve
(Cape Town, South Africa)

Me the way I was

Me the way I was

Me the way I was
Me now :(

When my mom committed suicide last year, one week before my 30th birthday,(back then I weighed approximately 60kg - 65kg I'm 6ft5 1/2) I did not know how to deal with the kaleidoscope of feelings I was experiencing, the most prominent being intense pain and loss.

I missed her so much. I missed speaking to her three times a day, I missed getting her 10 daily text messages. As a result I didn't know where to channel my pain, or how to fill the massive, mammoth void left by my mother's death.

So I ate. And I ate. Then I ate some more. I couldn't stop eating. I didn't particularly do it because I loved food or because I was enjoying eating so much, I did it to try and fill the Herculean sized hole in my heart.

As a result, 16 months later, I now weigh 85kg. I am short, the weight does not suit me whatsoever and I want to be healthy again. I know it will be a long process but I am committed to losing this weight naturally. I don't know if it's easy to lose 10kg in 5 months. Sounds easy -- that's only 2kg per month, but I already have a very slow metabolism.

I want to fit into my old clothes again. I have such beautiful clothes, many of which were gifted to me by my precious mother. I want to go to the mall and not be embarrassed. I dread bumping into old friends or any friends because of my massive weight gain. I want to be excited to see old friends again. Basically, I want my life back!

But I know, that grief is a very strong emotion and it can lead to excessive weight gain, for all the reasons you stated.

I'm sending you all my mental support to get back on track in your life and also to re-gain your former body !

Please post your success.

Having a great reason is important
by: Marion

Hi Denise,

what better motivation can you have than wanting to be fit to play with your grandchildren?

That's a really great reason to become fit and firm again.

To help you stay motivated you could also join a weight loss group such as Weight Watchers. The regular meetings and the guidance on what to eat may help you to stick to your goals.

Wishing you success!

Losing 10lbs to go to Las Vegas

Hello Imp,

40lbs is quite something :-)

You will need a lot more time than just a few weeks for this goal. But with the right mental preparation (staying positive), some early successes and regular physical activity, you'll be able to reach your weight loss goal by the end of the year.

You can kick start your weight loss with a one week
Cabbage Soup Diet. This will give you an immediate result (up to 10 lbs) and help you stay motivated.

After this first week, start with a healthy, low fat diet to lose the remaining pounds throughout the year.

All the best,

Marion

Energy to play with the grandkids
by: Marion

Hi Trish,

40lbs is quite a chunk to lose, but what better motivation than the thought of playing with your grand kids without tiring ...

Anyhow, you might want to split your goal into smaller, easier looking sub-goals. I.e. losing 10lbs in 3 months, and then another 10lbs.

This will give you a sense of achievement.

I hope your knee surgery goes well and afterward you can start with some light exercises, because only losing weight will not help much to get more energy. Preferably not the kind, that strains your knee (ask your doctor, what she recommends!).

As another reader suggested, you could start with the Wii Fit Plus or Wii Active program, which you do at home and can be varied in intensity according to your needs.

Very achievable goal
by: Low Fat Recipes

Hi Debbie,

Congratulations on taking the first step on your weight loss journey.

This is a very achievable goal, but the time frame if 6 month is quite long and you might procrastinate on implementing a healthier diet.
I'm not implying that you do this, but there is the danger to put it of until the last month and then start to do some really unhealthy "emergency diet".

Therefore I suggest that you break down your weight loss goal into little steps, such as 2kg per month. This will make it easier for you to stick to your plan and measure your progress.

Also, don't forget to celebrate successes! And by this I don't mean to splash out with a creamy tart or anything similar. Reward yourself for reaching every sub-goal with some non-food incentives, such as a visit to the movies, a day off in the nature, or anything else you like doing.
